Writers cowering at the onslaught of new AI writing tools hitting the market need to get a grip, according to Giada Nizzoli, a UK-based copywriter.
Nizzoli’s reasoning: “AI copywriting isn’t actually that good at the moment.”
Specifically, Nizzoli put a random AI writing tool through its paces and was not at all impressed.
The only proviso associated with this kind of testing: It’s easy to find just any AI writing tool that does not work well, or does not work well for an inexperienced user.
It’s a lot tougher to discredit best-of-breed AI writing tools that are currently leveraged by extremely experienced users at many of the world’s top companies.

*Train an AutoWriter to Write in Your Style: Popular autowriter Writer has released a new module designed to write in your style.
Dubbed ‘CoWrite,’ the tool works by ingesting numerous samples of your writing and then mimicking the writing style it discerns.
You can get a taste of how CoWrite works by opting for a free, 30-day trial of the ‘Teams’ version of AutoWriter.
If you’re looking to use CoWrite long-term, it’s available under Writer’s ‘Essentials’ grade, which will get you 15,000 words-per-month at $10,000/year plus $15/month for each user.
CoWrite is also available under Writer’s ‘Standard’ grade, which offers 250,000 words-per-month at $30,000/year plus $15/month for each user.
*In-Depth Guide: Resume.io: If you’re looking for a little AI help putting together your resume, you may want to check-out this pitch from Resume.io.
The tool allows you to build a resume without leaving your Web browser.
Plus, you can use Resume.io’s AI to auto-summarize your resume for use as a cover letter – or a condensed version of your resume.
*AI Writing in the Classroom: A Done Deal?: Some educators are resigned to the fact that the widespread use of AI writing tools by students is simply a matter of time, according to this article in Education Week.
Says Ray McNulty, a longtime Vermont educator: “There’ll be a transition where this will become second nature.”
The real question for educators, McNulty adds, will be how teachers can add AI writing tools to the curriculum in a careful and thoughtful way that enhances education.
Adds McNulty: “What we’re trying to do is have school districts know this stuff is coming.”
*AI Lyrics Writer: More than a Million Served: AI writer LyricStudio has helped songwriters auto-generate verses for more than a million songs, according to the company.
Observes Maya Ackerman, CEO, WaveAI – the makers of LyricStudio: “Even in the early days, we knew that our AI was the next phase of evolution in human creative expression.”
LyricStudio currently has a user base of more than 100,000, according to Ackerman.
*More Top Marketers Embrace AI Writing: More marketers are embracing the AI-generation of ads with enthusiasm, according to this ad in the Wall Street Journal.
“It’s like having a machine hive mind that you can just keep asking questions — because it has completely consumed all comments on the subject,” says Matt Orser, head of creative, Dollar Shave Club.
Adds Nathan Phillips, founder, DumDum: “You can create a dance between human and computer that changes the way you think.”
*Article Forge: Long Form Article Generator?: A marketer for AI writer Article Forge boasts that the tool can auto-generate 1,500-word articles in a flash without breaking a sweat.
But there’s some fine print with that claim, according to Dana Stasieluk, head of growth, Article Forge: “Article Forge content may be good enough to publish as is.
“But if not, editing a fully formed, structured draft is significantly easier/faster than walking through the whole process manually.”
Translation: Sure, Article Forge can spit-out a lot of words on any topic for you in plain vanilla language that’s hopefully coherent.
But if you want something you’ll stake your company’s reputation on, plan on spending significant time reworking and editing.
*Live Talk on AI-Generated Business Reports Aug. 16: Coder Chris Wagner and Lyndsee Manna, executive vice president, Arria NLG , will be talking on how to auto-write business reports on YouTube August 16.
Arria NLG is one of a number of companies specializing in auto-generating reports from data tables to text.

*Customizing AI for Technical Writing: Editors and writers specializing in technical writing will want to check-out this in-depth look at this experiment in auto-generating copy with GPT-3 from ContentLab.
ContentLab’s conclusion: AI shows promise for technical writing, but it’s not ready for prime time.
Observes Ryan Penden, developer, ContentLab.: “AI can act as a technical content creation sidekick.
‘Even if it can’t write you articles, it can help uncover ideas and topics that you might not have thought of on your own.
Also: “AI can help you populate topic lists and briefs if you are building out your own content pipeline.
“If you’re working with a technical content agency like ContentLab, AI can help you generate ideas you can bring to the table and iterate on with your content creation partner.”
*AI Big Picture: Is AI Sentient? Brilliant Minds Disagree: New York Times Writer Cade Metz is convinced no AI program currently available is sentient.
Observes Metz: “The notion that today’s technology is somehow behaving like the human brain is a red herring.
“There is no evidence this technology is sentient or conscious.”
But some brilliant AI minds Metz quotes in this thought-provoking piece disagree.
Observes Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI – a key catalyst behind the proliferation of AI writing: “They (AIs) can complete useful cognitive tasks.
“The ability to learn — the ability to take in new context and solve something in a new way — is intelligence.”
Adds Philip Bousa, CEO, Know Labs; “There is no doubt in my mind GPT-3 (OpenAI’s super autowriting tool) has emerged as sentient.”
